SCHOLARSHIPSWESTSIDE AQUADUCKS SWIM SCHOLARSHIPS
This new scholarship program is based on financial need. The program was instituted in an effort to support our swimmers, and to ensure everyone who wants to swim has the ability to continue training regardless of their financial situation. For scholarship consideration, the swim parent(s) must complete and submit an application to the Board of Directors. Each scholarship will subsidize a portion of the swimmer's monthly dues. The maximum scholarship award is coverage of 75% of monthly dues. Each scholarship period will run for six consecutive months. At the end of the six-month period, the applicant must wait another six months before reapplying. Scholarships will be awarded one swimmer per family at any given time. No more than two team-wide scholarships will be active at any given time. Meet expenses, annual membership fees, and equipment expenses are not covered by this scholarship and are the responsibility of the swim family. Scholarship CriteriaA formal letter requesting the scholarship must to be sent to the team's mailing address; Westside Aquaducks Examples of "financial need" are family illness, loss of employment, divorce, or any other substantial change in financial ability. Applicant must be a member in good standing. This is means that all dues are current to date; swimmer has been regularly attending practices and meets; and the family has been actively involved in team-sponsored functions and other volunteer needs. An awarded scholarship may be rescinded if a swimmer is out of the water for more than two weeks without their coach's knowledge and approval of absence prior to two weeks absence An awarded scholarship may be rescinded if a swimmer displays an inappropriate or unsportsmanlike behavior at practices or at meets or any conduct deemed inappropriate as defined by the Westside Code of Conduct, March 2008. Scholarship Determination Upon receipt of an application letter, the Westside Board will review the request at the next scheduled board meeting and communicate a determination no later than one week following the meeting. (Meetings are typically scheduled for the first Monday of the month.) Scholarships will be awarded by a majority vote of the current sitting Board members. As no more than two scholarships can run concurrently, it is possible that a scholarship may be approved but activated upon termination of a current scholarship. If so, the Board will notify the swim family of the scholarship activation date. Any questions about the team's financial need scholarships should be directed to the Swim Board via mail or email. All Board member email addresses can be found on this website under Board/Member Information Thank you, |
